Learn to Swim – Swimming lessons in Oxford provided by the City of Oxford Swimming Club

The City of Oxford Swimming Clubs (COSC) Learn to Swim Programme, based at Headington Girls School Swimming Pool, has been running since 2007. The 30 minute swimming lessons are held on Saturday mornings (11.30 – 13.00).

The pool is 25m, 5 lane, 0.7m at the shallow end and 2.0m at the deep end.

We aim to provide children aged 4+ with the skills to ensure they are happy and safe in the water, and can swim with confidence.

Swim England (previously known as ASA) Level 2 Swimming Teachers and Coaches, deliver the lessons using the Swim England National Plan for Teaching Swimming of Stages. The lessons run through from Stage 1 to Stage 6 – with the opportunity (from Stage 4-6) to get a taste of competitive swimming through our Rising Stars Squads. After Stage 6, swimmers are welcome to trial (COSC Open Day) for the competitive Academy Squads.

Developing Confident, Happy Swimmers!

The start of the swim season is the beginning of September, and and runs through to the end of July. However, we do welcome new swimmers throughout the season. We only have breaks at Christmas and Easter. (Obviously, you do not have to commit to the whole 11 months – you would have to give us a full calendar month’s notice) This ensures that children remain motivated and progress through the levels.

Skills camps

These are offered up in holiday times and add to the swimmers skills. They may cover starts and turns or diving as specific skill development. All help towards creating confident swimmers as well as having fun. See here for further detail.
