City of Oxford junior breaststroke swimmers Callum Smart and Connor Bryan (both 16) have followed in the path of COSC teammate David Murphy by being selected by British Swimming to represent Great Britain at two key events in the swimming calendar of 2017. Their selection comes off the back of their recent performances at the British Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre where Smart and Bryan finished 2nd and 4th in the 200m breaststroke Junior (U18’s) final and 1st and 7th in the 100m breaststroke Junior final respectively.
These amazing performances mean that Smart will be heading off to Indianapolis for the 2017 World Junior Championships in August, whereas Bryan will be going to Israel for the European Junior Championships at the end of June.
Following the success of Smart and Bryan at the British Swimming Championships, COSC swimmers were back in the pool at Ponds Forge for the British International Para Championships. This time it was the turn of Chris Currie in the 200m freestyle final where Currie received a bronze and finished in a time of 2.16.14.
The success of the City of Oxford Swimmers at these major events and their selection for national duty has put the club in the forefront of competitive swimming and will surely result in greater opportunities for other swimmers as they push to follow in the slipstream that these swimmers are creating.
