The second weekend of the Oxfordshire & North Bucks County Swimming Championships held in Aylesbury on Sunday 18th January continued City of Oxford Swimming Club’s quest to retain their County Championship title and position as Oxfordshire’s premier swimming club.
The women’s 400m Individual Medley saw City take a clean sweep of the medals in the Junior County Championship with 15 year olds Emily Nisbet, Emily Wood and Isabel Brewster on the podium in gold, silver and bronze medal position respectively. Nisbet’s time of 4.57.04 also saw her take second place in the Women’s Open Championship, with Wood third in the Open in a time of 5.05.50
Nisbet followed up her success winning both the Women’s Open and Junior County Championship titles in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4.28.12. In 7th position at the end of the first 50m, Nisbet swam a tactically astute race to gradually move through the field, taking the lead after 200m and eventually winning by nearly 2 seconds.
16 year old David Murphy dominated the Men’s Open 400m Individual Medley County Championship to take the title in a time of 4.32.45. 2 seconds off the lead at the half way mark, Murphy powered ahead in his specialist breaststroke leg to finish an impressive 7 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
Murphy continued his medal winning form in the Men’s Open 400m freestyle County Championship event taking silver in a time of 4.11.21 with team mate 14 year old Ewan Springett winning bronze in 4.11.88. Springett’s time also secured him silver in the Junior County Championship.
Chris Currie took gold in the Men’s Multi-class disability 400m freestyle and 10 year old Libby Gotta won silver in the Women’s Multi-Class disability 400m freestyle.
With age group medals also on offer, based on age as of 31st Dec 2015, gold medals were won by Alissa Clarke in the girls 15 year old age category in both the 400m freestyle (4.36.95) and 400m IM (5.23.90). Nisbet also took home gold medals in her age category of 16 years for both events.
Freddie Cook won gold in the boys 11 year old 400m freestyle in a time of 5.11.82, with Springett taking gold in the 15 year old age category and Murphy gold in the 17 years and over age group for both 400m freestyle and 400m .
