“Daniel’s stunning comeback seals 17 Years 200m Freestyle gold medal” at Swim England National Summer Meet

“Daniel’s stunning comeback seals 17 Years 200m Freestyle gold medal” at Swim England National Summer Meet – Swim England http://www.swimming.org/sport/stunning-comeback/

 24 swimmers from the City of Oxford Swimming Club headed to Ponds Forge, Sheffield for the Swim England National Summer Meet. The swimmers did themselves and the club proud, personal bests tumbled and they came away with 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.

In the men’s events, Daniel Jenkins, 17yrs led the way, doing the double, winning gold in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke. In an exciting final which had City of Oxford supporters on the edge of their seats, Daniel’s stunning comeback from 7th at the final turn sealed the gold medal in the 200m free by 0.04s. Daniel followed this up later in the week with gold in the 200m back. Also making the podium was Max Bolcato, winning silver in 16yrs 100m fly and Chris Sims winning silver in the 15yrs 200m breaststroke.

In the men’s multiclass events Chris Currie, 24, was 6th in 200m MC freestyle.

In the women’s events, Yasmin Tajalli stormed to victory in the 17yrs and over 50m free sprint. Emily Ford, 16yrs had a great competition with silver in the 100m fly and a bronze in the 50m fly. Sisters, Delphine Little 15yrs, and Maia Little in the 17yrs and over, both had strong swims: Delphine taking silver in the 100m fly and Maia with bronze in the 200m breast. In the distance events Dotty Goodgame took bronze in the 17yrs and over 1500m free.

Special mention too for Megan Smit 15 yrs and George Rudd both swimming in multiple long-distance events over the course of the week. Megan made finals in the 400m free and 400IM events with pbs to finish the season and George at his first nationals.

All swimmers, put in strong performances over the week. Other finalists with pbs and going faster in the finals included:

Arnold Martin 17yrs 8th 100m breast, Max Bolcato 7th 200m fly, Kenji McDade 16yrs 200m fly 5th, 5th 800m free breaking 9 minutes for the first time and 9th 200IM, Daniel Jenkins 4th 50m back, 7th 400m free, Chris Motha 18yrs and over 200m fly 5th, George Rudd 9th 200m fly, Max Underwood 17yrs 400IM 5th and 800m free 10th, Freddie Wilkinson 17yrs 5th 200m breast, Chris Wood 18yrs+ 200IM 10th. Luke Wilby 18yrs+ swimming and just missing out 200m back final.

Emily Ford 5th 100m back, Delphine Little 15yrs 4th in 100m back and 10th in 100m free final, Megan Smit 400IM 7th and 400m free 8th, Ellen Bagley 13 6th 200m breast, Tiana Porter 16 8th 100m fly, Illizane Pinfold 15 5th 200IM, Millie Tomlin-Davies 15yrs 9th 50m breast.

Gretal Goodgame 14 was 14th in 200m free and Evie McLean 14 was 16th 50m fly both swimming PBs and just missing out on finals.

Huge thanks to coaches Amanda Booth, Zichen Liu and Michael Peacock for all the work you have dome throughout the season to prepare the swimmers for national competitions and to top tweeter Garry Wotton for keeping family and friends updated throughout the meet. Club Profile

City of Oxford Swimming Club offers coaching and competitive swimming for all ranges of swimmers from 7 to over 70. The club has an excellent calibre of coaching staff which ensures all can reach their full potential. The club environment allows swimmers to excel individually but also promotes a team spirit and is currently the top junior and overall club in the county.
