City of Oxford title defence begins in style


City of Oxford Swimming Club began their defence as Oxfordshire & NorthBucks County Champions with a dominant display in the long distance events on the opening day of the 2015 County Championship, winning 3 of the 4 Championship titles on offer.

Fabian Whitbread convincingly won the Men’s
Open 1500m freestyle in a time of 16.06.68 whilst team mate Lizzie Oliver,
17 years old, led from early on to take the Women’s Open 800m freestyle
championship title, in a time of 9.06.06.  15 year old Emily Nisbet took
second place in the championship event which also bagged her the Girl’s
Junior 800m freestyle title in a time of 9.14.54, into the bargain.

The boys’ 13-14 year old 4 x 50m freestyle relay team of Daniel Jenkins,
Jack Bradley, Theo Cooke and Henry Barlow took gold whilst City’s B team of
Gabriel Agostini, Dominic Mills, Ewan McBain and Max Underwood  finished
5th. Jenkins, Bradley and Cooke were then joined by Underwood to take silver
in the boys 13-14 year old 4 x 50m medley relay.

In the boy’s 11-12 year old 4 x 50m medley relay, City’s team of Freddie
Cooke, Jamie Conway, Oliver Thornton and Logan Bryan finished 4th. Diego
Bravo then joined Cooke, Conway and Bryan to finish 6th in the boy’s 11-12
year old 4 x 50m freestyle relay.
