Kate Mills (18), Emily Wood (18) and David Murphy (18) from City of Oxford Swimming Club competed in the South East Regional team in Nice, France, on 3rd-5th Feb 2017. The 22-strong team was selected from the South East Regional Winter Championships last December. This was the first leg of a three-stop French ‘Golden Tour’. The Oxford Swimmers gained invaluable International experience racing Olympians such as Katinka Hosszu (Hungary) and Jeremy Desplanches (Switzerland).
Competing at this every high standard, all three Oxford swimmers achieved place in the finals in their main events. Murphy took a gold and two silvers in his events taking away prize money as well as medals. Results were as follows: David Murphy (18) 50m breaststroke (A-final 2nd), 200m breaststroke (A- final 2nd), 100m breaststroke (A-final 1st); Kate Mills (18): 50m fly (B final -7th), 50m freestyle, 200m fly (B- final 8th) 100m fly (B-final 8th), Emily Wood: (18) 50m breaststroke, (B final -6th) 400m individual medley (9th), 100m breaststroke (B final – 1st), 100m breaststroke (B final -1st).
Success was shared by Kyle Frantzeskou, City of Oxford’s Assistant Head Coach, who was selected to be one of the South East Region’s coaches on this trip.
