City of Oxford’s National Performance squad headed north of the border to compete at the Scottish National Open Championships held in Tolcross, Glasgow from the 25th – 28th June. Fabian Whitbread narrowly missed out on a bronze medal with a 4th in the 400m individual medley, 4.33.03, and qualified for finals in the 200m IM, 2.08.25 and 200m breaststroke, 2.23.41. David Murphy won the B final of the 200m breaststroke in 2.20.82 and placed 9th in the 50m breast final in 29.42, taking his brother Alex Murphy’s South East Regional 16 year old age group record in the process. Callum Smart also made two finals and continued the record breaking form as he took the South East Regional age group records (14 years) in both the 200m breaststroke, 2.25.21 and 100m breaststroke, 1.06.78. Other finalists included Ellie Millington in 100m backstroke, 1.07.20 and 50m butterfly, 29.19, Emily Nisbet in 400m IM, 5.05.17, Annie Sharp in the 200m backstroke, 2.22.42, and Maia Little in 100m breaststroke, 1.17.00. Rosie Bancroft finished 4th in the multi-classification 50m freestyle event.
