City of Oxford Swimming Club looks forward to welcoming swimmers aged 8 to 16+ (registered with the Amateur Swimming Association) from Abingdon, 4 Shires, Didcot, Wantage, Banbury, Witney & Kidlington to the Leys Pool and Leisure Centre for our Development Meets 4 & 5 this weekend.
Our development meets (level 4 meets) give young swimmers an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a meet in a more relaxed environment and achieve times for potential Oxon & North Bucks County competitions.
For those swimmers and parents / guardians that are experiencing this as their first gala, why not check out our ‘Top tips for those new to competition swimming’ on the COSC website.
The key things to remember are:
- Always check in with the Team Managers (dark blue tops) on poolside 30 minutes BEFORE warm-up starts for each session – they are in charge!
- Stay with your team mates on poolside throughout the session – and cheer them on!
- Make sure you’ve got plenty of healthy snacks with you in a small poolside bag (remember, no nuts!).
- Listen to the coaches, remember what you’ve been taught – AND HAVE FUN!
We also invite swimmers from the COSC Rising Stars Squads, that aren’t already taking part to come along and watch. Especially as this helps swimmers that have never attended a meet to understand what is involved and experience the atmosphere.
A final note to our swimmers, don’t forget that Liz and the coaches will be giving awards for the best skills on display. So remember those skills you have been honing during training and the recent starts and finishes skill camp.
