City of Oxford swimmers were on superb winning form at the Tiger Bay Open Meet held at Cardiff International pool from 11th to 13th March, collecting a total of 70 medals and speeding tickets. City’s impressive medal haul comprised 24 golds, 18 silvers, 11 bronzes and 17 sought after speeding tickets (awarded to swimmers faster than the upper qualifying time set for the meet). The performance ensured that City’s small but strong squad were named the top visiting club out of a field of 45 clubs from around the country.

City’s Chris Currie, age 21, won a £50 prize for top male in the Para Swimming Pentathlon, awarded to para swimmers having competed and scored in five events (based on British Disability points). Chris took an impressive four golds in 50m butterfly, 400m, 200m and 100m freestyle as well as three silver medals in 100m and 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

The meet gave City’s swimmers another opportunity to hone their skills and compete in a long course pool. Eleven year old silver and bronze medal winner, Rosie Hilton-Dew said: “It’s been great coming to Cardiff. It’s good experience swimming in the 50m pool and I’ve enjoyed the extra challenge. The brilliant team atmosphere has really helped me swim my best in all my races.”

Among the other notable performers were 11 year olds Jamie Conway who stormed to four golds and a bronze medal and Charles Pauling who took a further three golds. Logan Bryan, 12, bagged no less than four golds, a silver and two bronze medals! For the 13 year olds Theo Cooke, was awarded three speeding tickets, a gold and a silver and George Rudd was on great form taking two speeding tickets, three golds and two silvers.

For the girls, one of City’s youngest swimmers at the meet, nine year old Juliet Anthony, caught the eye taking three speeding tickets and a silver medal. Megan Peake, 10, was on fabulous form with three speeding tickets, a gold and a silver. Ayanna Fulga, 11, was awarded two speeding tickets, two silvers and a bronze, while 13 year old Zoe Coombs won two golds and two bronzes and Elise Lawrence, 16, took an impressive haul of three golds, two slivers and a bronze.

All the medal winners are listed below and full results are available from the City of Cardiff Swimming Club website.
