City of Oxford Swimming Club ended the 2015 Oxfordshire and North Buckinghamshire ASA County Swimming Championships as top club for the third year running.

City’s emphatic victory saw them amass 2577.5 points, more than double that of the second placed City of Milton Keynes Swimming Club 1258.50 with Bicester Blue Fins in 3rd place with 963 points. City of Oxford also finished as top junior club for the fourth consecutive year with 766.50 points. Abingdon Vale finished runners up on 473.50 and Bicester Blue Fins in third with 406.50 points. Over the course of the Championships City’s swimmers won 9 Open Championship titles with 22 silvers and 11 bronze medals, 22 Junior Championship titles with 14 silver and 11 bronze medals, and took 81 gold, 81 silver and 55 bronze medals in the age group categories.

In the final weekend 15 year old Emily Nisbet won 3 Junior Championship Titles to bring her total to 7 Junior Titles over the course of the Championships. Nisbet struck gold in the 200m freestyle (2.06.89), 200m butterfly (2.18.48) and 100m butterfly (1.04.44). 15 year old Emily Wood added 2 further Junior Championship Titles in the 50m breaststroke (33.80) and 200m breaststroke (2.34.19, a meet best time for her age group) to take a clean sweep of the breaststroke Junior Titles. Nisbet and Wood then combined with Rachel Allen and Ellie Millington to take the girls 16 and under 200m medley relay in a new Junior County Record time of 2.01.10. Millington, Allen, Nisbet and Amy Coombs added further gold in the girls 16 and under 400m freestyle relay.

In the Men’s Open County Championship 200m individual medley Fabian Whitbread struck gold in 2.03.83 with David Murphy taking silver in 2.08.10. Murphy then struck gold in the Men’s Open 100m breaststroke (1.02.23) with Whitbread in silver position (1.02.59). Whitbread and Murphy ended the Championship with 3 Open Titles apiece. In the Boys 100m breaststroke Junior Championship Callum Smart completed a clean sweep of the Junior Breaststroke Titles with gold in 1.07.99, with teammate Connor Bryan taking silver in 1.09.07. In the Boys 16 and under 200m freestyle relay Christopher Wood, Zac Bischoff, Lewis Pearce and Ewan Springett broke the Junior County Record to take gold in 1.40.76.

Other multiple medal winners in the final weekend included Evie McLean, who took 2 golds (50m breaststroke and 100m IM) and 3 silvers (50m and 200m freestyle and 200m breaststroke) in the girl’s 11 year old category. Chiara De Vita won 4 golds and 2 silver medals in the girl’s 14 year old category. Freddie Cooke added a further 3 golds (100m freestyle, 50m and 200m backstroke) and 2 silvers (50m butterfly and 100m breaststroke) in the boys 11year old category. Ewan Springett took 2 golds (50m butterfly and 50m backstroke) and 2 silvers (200m IM and 100m freestyle) in the 15 year old category. Daniel Jenkins took gold in the 100m freestyle and 3 silvers (50m butterfly, 50m and 200m backstroke) with bronze in the 200m IM in the 14 year old category.

Club Profile

City of Oxford Swimming Club offers coaching and competitive swimming for all ranges of swimmers from 7 to over 70. The club has an excellent calibre of coaching staff which ensures all can reach their full potential. The club environment allows swimmers to excel individually but also promotes a team spirit and is currently the top junior and overall club in the county.
