CHILTERN LEAGUE Round 1

On Saturday 27th February, City of Oxford Swimming Club participated in the Chilterns’ Swimming League, Division 2, Round 1 as one of eight teams. There was a great energy throughout and City impressed with some great results with 8 first places, 4 second places and 1 third place in the individual events, 4 first places, 4 second places and 2 third places in the relay events. There were 11 speeding tickets and many PB’s!

Libby Clark and Tom Holliday started the event with a respective first and second place in the Ladies’ and Men’s Open 100m Freestyle races. Followed by many first places: Joseph Watkiss in 50m Breaststroke, Pearl Sophastienphong in 50m Freestyle, William Healey in 50m Freestyle, Maddie Watkins in 50m Backstroke, Henry Barlow in 50m Butterfly, David Feng in 50m Backstroke and Tom Holliday again, this time for Men’s 4x25m individual medley. Second places for: Ben Holmes in 50m Backstroke, Tufayl Ahmed in 50m Freestyle and Ben MacLennan in 50m Butterfly and a third place for Thalia Robinson- Cortes in 50 Breaststroke.

The relays were interspersed throughout the event. COSC earned first in the Men’s 4×50 Medley Relay for the team of Max Boys, Tom Holliday, Henry Barlow and Ryan Bird,
first in the Boys’ 14+U 4 x 25m Medley Relay for the team of Jacob Taylor, Denis Donskikh, Sascha Clark-Jones and Tufayl Ahmed, first in the 12 y Boys’ Freestyle Relay for James Brooks, Ben Holmes, Diego Bravo and Stan Pritchard first in the Boys’ 14y Freestyle for Jacob Taylor, Denis Donskikh, Sascha Clark-Jones and Tufayl Ahmed, second place for Boys’ 10y Medley relay team of Ben Henning, Harry Jones, William Healey and David Feng, and also for the Boys’ 10y 4×25 Freestyle Relay team of Ben Henning, Joseph Watkiss, William Healey and David Feng, second also for the 12+U Medley Relay team of Ben MacLennan, Dylan Holliday, Diego Bravo and Stan Pritchard. Finally, earning second but only just missing out on first was the Men’s 4x50m Freestyle Relay team of Tom Holliday, Max Boyns, Ryan Bird and Henry Barlow. Third place for Girls’ 10y 4×25 Medley relay team of Zinzi Spiller, Amelia Brown, Pearl Sophastienphong, Kate Henning and for the Girls’ 10y Freestyle team of Pearl Sophastienphong, Anabella Janov, Zinzi Spiller and Amelia Brown and also for the Girls’ 12y Medley Relay team of Michaela Shakespeare, Katy Cowls, Maddie Watkins and Thalia Robinson-Cortes.

Speeding Tickets were awarded to Joseph Watkiss (50m Breaststroke), Pearl Shophastienphong (50m Freestyle), William Healey (50m Freestyle), Maddie Watkins (50m Backstroke), Ben Holmes (50m Backstroke), David Feng (50m Backstroke), Tom Holliday (4X25m IM), Boys 10y 4×25 Medley Relay team (Ben Henning, Harry Jones, William Healey, David Feng), Boys 10y 4×25 Freestyle Relay team (Ben Henning, Joseph Watkiss, William Healey, David Feng), Boys 12+U 4×25 Medley Relay team (Ben MacLennan, Dylan Holliday, Diego Bravo, Stan Pritchard) and the Men’s Open 4×50 Freestyle Relay team (Tom Holliday, Max Boys, Ryan Bird, Henry Barlow).

Club Profile

City of Oxford Swimming Club offers coaching and competitive swimming for all ranges of swimmers from 7 to over 70. The club has an excellent calibre of coaching staff which ensures all can reach their full potential. The club environment allows swimmers to excel individually but also promotes a team spirit and is currently the top junior and overall club in the county.
