The 2nd weekend of the ASA South East Regional Swimming Championships, held in The Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth on 23rd and 24th May, saw City of Oxford’s swimmers show their strength and depth across the squad with an impressive performance in both the individual and the relay events. The junior girls’ 4 x 100m medley relay team of Annie Sharp, Emily Wood, Emily Nisbet and Ellie Millington kicked off the medal bonanza striking gold in 4.24.19 and smashing the Oxfordshire & North Bucks Junior County Record by an amazing 7 seconds. Olivia Webster and Amy Coombs joined Nisbet and Millington to claim another gold in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay, also in a Junior County Record of 4.01.58, a full 4 seconds inside the previous record (records to be ratified). The women’s 17 years and over relay team of Shannon Motha, Daniella Springett, Lucy Smith and Eleanor McNally added to the medal haul with silver in the 4 x 100m freestyle, 4.01.05; and bronzes in the 4 x 100m medley, 4.31.49 and the 4 x 200m freestyle relays, 8.52.39.
In the individual events Chris Currie claimed gold in the men’s multi-classification 400m freestyle (4.50.32). 15 year old Ewan Springett swam an impressive 1500m freestyle to take silver in 17.12.24 and Emily Nisbet also 15, took silver in the girls 16 year old (age at end of year) 400m individual medley in 5.06.95. Daniel Jenkins added to the medal tally with a bronze in the boy’s 14 year 400m freestyle, 4.30.94.
