COSC Championship September/October 2017 – Press Report

City of Oxford Swimming Club held their annual Club Championships at Leys Pool over the two weekends of 15th -17th September and 30th September-1st October, heralding the start of an exciting competition season. The inspiring and supportive club atmosphere was foremost, with swimmers at all levels joining together in teams and singing the club chant.

Oxford swimmers reporting for their first ever race, though to those who have represented their country at international level and Master’s swimmers, all competed alongside each other. It was a great opportunity for swimmers to hone the skills they’ve been practising in training, aim for personal best times or possibly times that will allow them to enter the Oxon & North Bucks Swimming County Championships.

COSC Head Coach, Amanda Booth said:
“It’s been a busy five days and our swimmers have achieved so much, working as a team and integrating with other squads. Some of our youngest Rising Stars and Academy swimmers experienced their first competition and it was good to see them gain independence. For the experienced and High Performance swimmers, the emphasis was on leadership, mentoring and passing on their knowledge to younger swimmers. The 2017/2018 season has only just begun and from what we’ve seen over these two weekends, it holds much to look forward to!”

Topping the list of medal winners was 18 year-old David Murphy, storming to 17 golds.  Also for the boys, Nick Skelton, age 14, took an impressive 15 golds and Kayden Sillah, age 11, won eight golds. Christopher Skelton, age 12, Charles Pauling, age 13, Freddie Wilkinson, age 15, Max Bolcato, age 15, Daniel Jenkins, age 16 and Connor Bryan, all won seven golds.

For the girls, 10 year-old Nalinratn (Pearl) Sophastienphong amassed an amazing 14 golds and Lily Brabbin, age 11, with 12 golds.  Ayanna Fulga, age 12, and Ellie Millington, age 17, both won 10 golds, while Evie McLean, age 13, Mimi Morley Iszatt, age 14 and Dotty Goodgame, age 16, all took seven golds.

Well done to all swimmers who took part; those who came 1st to 6th place in their age groups for each event are awarded medals and all swimmers will have a chance to celebrate at the club awards event later in the season. Thank you to the coaches, officials and all many volunteers who helped make the weekends run so smoothly.
